Lonely Soul
He sits alone beneath the stars Keeping warm by a trash can fire His clothes are old and full of holes His home an old cardboard box and blanket Everyday for him it is the same He holds a cardboard sign Just trying to scrape up enough money Begging for anything so he won't starve To look at him you wouldn't know He was a war time hero His platoon got struck by a bomb His unit blown to pieces He lives his life day to day Fighting for survival People sit and stare at him Looking down on him in judgement Inflicted with such trauma He doesn't know how to cope Every night when he goes to sleep It's like he's still in a war This man he is a hero He saved so many lives He gave up his freedom So he could come back to this life Alone, afraid no family to name Just his blanket and his box And a lifetime of such regret For the soldiers that he lost Maybe one day soon Humanity will take a stand Give this man his proper thanks And a home that he can call his own
