A Cowboy's Try At Cookin'
A Cowboy’s Try At Cookin’ It weren't easy what Bob had done, No one said otherwise. I chuckled at the yarns he'd spun, With twinkles in his eyes. The first one that I heard about Was on a cattle trail. Bound for Kansas just six days out, They seen a twister’s tail. They watched as long as they could look, And then it jumped the herd. It dropped back down and grabbed their cook- He never said a word It sucked him in that mighty spin, And roared off to the South. They never saw their cook again, Just stood there open mouthed. Now Bob was tired of ridin' drag, And saw a chance for change. Said he could cook but wouldn't brag, He'd get them cross the range. And so began the Drive From Hell Bob thought would never end. His cookin' didn't go so well, The crew was angry men. His coffee tasted like old socks, Gravy it was lumpy. His biscuits were as hard as rocks, Boss was downright grumpy. It went like that for way too long 'Til Reno Bill went nuts. He pulled his gun and sang a song 'Bout taters and cold cuts. He shot the skillet and iron pot, And kicked the coffee can. Then took a bead on Bob's top knot, And hit him with a pan. So Bob took off and moved his bones, His boots was leavin' track. Cowboys behind was throwin' stones, He never did look back. Next time he signed on as a hand They asked what role he fit. He said most anything he'd stand, 'Cept he ain't cookin' s____ !
