Lost Earth
At first we were creatures, Now here we all are, In this celestial lab, Within a glass jar. Pleading our innocence, Underneath the scope, Perched on our doorsteps. Searching for hope. Beneath the heavens, Under the sheets, Just a boy and a girl, Two insignificant beasts. Within this pre-loved world, There's no-one else to blame, As we destroy life each day, Without any shame. Carved by biblical floods, Soil torn into slithers, We turn water into sewage, To pollute our rivers. The fattening corporations, Accept no hidden flaws, They purchase stretch limos, To fund on-going wars. Why don't we ever stop? Those production lines, That cause corpses to rot, Around billets of lead? Upon cut rainforest trees, We write slogans on paper, Let us do what we please, Save our world for later. We hold firm our phones, In case we capture that shot, Of a jumbo jet falling, Or that child time forgot. So if everything fails, What does it matter? Memory cards will prevail, Should the earth shatter. I guess we'll become, An archaeological find, Funded by aliens, At some distant time. As our beacon of hope, Continues through space, Please return to lost earth, We destroyed it through faith. (c) 2016 PJ Bayliss
