Judgment
God has given me a gift To encourage others, shine a light When the cellar door closes And the darkness threatens to win. I will feel it suddenly, an urge, A persistent grip that won't release Until I act and tell someone "You are beautiful, important, special." But sometimes the door swings And I am left on the other side Wishing someone would hear God's call To see me, hear me, help me. Usually the darkest corners Where judging monsters hide Are in the buildings with a cross on top And righteous enforcers within. They piously talk about God, But mostly they point out the cobwebs In the corners of your life, Left when Jesus chased the spiders away. They don't see the crown molding, They see the peeling paint. They don't see a child of the King Only a scarred believer in love. To them I say: You are beautiful! Love yourself, dance among the cobwebs And when you have the urge, Open the cellar door for someone in the dark. Until then, I will continue my crusade Unaided by a congregational army. And pray for people to see the light Unfiltered by their stained-glass hearts. I will encourage unabashedly, Love unashamedly, accept unconditionally, Seeking to listen only to what God urges, Not the whispers of modern-day Pharisees.
