The Whining Baby
Bus stop bench Gloomy weather Fall transitioning into winter Wouldn’t you know it There she is; Her red aura and bohemian style make her stand out in a crowd. I wave to her as I am happy to see her. That happiness was temporary however due to her soul piercing leer. Prior to her words she had already reopened all the cuts on my heart. The bus arrives but there is a long line. She speaks but my headphones mask the sound. I remove one ear, “Do you understand why it hurt me so much when you said I never loved you?” I wanted to say an infinite number of words, Apologize for the multitude of assertions I have made that hurt you Those same thoughts that have been eating at me for the past few months since you left I am too far gone to be forgiven. I place my foot on the bus step and words force themselves out of my mouth “I’m sorry.” “Thank you.” In an instant she was gone. On the bus I pondered whether or not either of our statements were genuine. As the rain cloud above my head began to produce lightning I considered my options.
