My Hunger For Love
In my insatiable hunger to be loved, I feasted at wrong tables. Cried too many useless tears for love that only exists in fables. I drank deeply of intoxicating wines, until I was no longer able to clearly see the warning of "poison" was written on the label. In my thirst to be wanted, I gave in to the whims of many others... to those who'd been abandoned and in need, who sought mothers to the selfish ones who craved their evil desires, one after another until I realized I'd fallen into a deep pit, and very nearly smothered. I'd been ripped apart and broken into a million pieces... shattered and my jagged shards thrown about until I felt I no longer mattered shots to my body, wounds to my soul, heart bruised and battered Is it even worth the living when my life has been torn and tattered? Then he came along with a love not born of only a casual caress. He taught me devotion is not something bought or possessed. When at last I found the courage to face the truth and confess, I was gifted with being loved, the answer to my prayer's request. He held me in his arms, embraced in love's most tender grip. At last my insatiable hunger was sated by the touch of his lips. Quenched was my desire for drink when his nectar I'd sipped. This rescuer helped me up; kept me standing when I slipped He saw in me what I could not, and did not scorn me as a child. transformed me into a woman, as one no longer I could revile. He took my brokenness, and made me beautiful with his smile. Lifted me out of the deep pit when we walked down the aisle.
