The Comforter
The Comforter By Curtis Johnson When it came your time to die, Not once did I see you cry, or even sigh. May you never be afraid, as angels stand nearby. But if there should be any tears, may they never dry. You have loved us; no one can deny. You are loved by us, so don’t be shy. I will think of you, and lift my head to the sky. My lips and my heart shall simply say Hi. Do not ever expect me to say goodbye. In His time, we shall all spread our wings and fly. From the pains in the plains; from the ills in the hills; From the valleys below where we weep; From the sickness in the pits so deep; In His time, the angels will beckon, and gravity shall untie. We will lift and soar, far beyond the mountain high. In His time, no more pills and pains. In His time, no more ills and chills. In His time, no more asking, “Why?” No, Jo Ellen, my dear friend; When it came your time to die, I know why you were not afraid. It’s because He made you brave. Cj8/13/15This poem was give to Jo Ellen's family during her last days in the hospital.
