I'M Sorry Grandpa
I’m sorry grandpa for exposing the putrid ugly past I was only seeking closure now that you have passed But looking back I forgot to mention a few important facts Like the love and care you shared and how you always kept a pact Keeping a secret was one of your attributes remembering to this day Like the time you kept that secret from mom without a moments delay Your untimely visits to our work forcing all of us to take a break Bringing us treats and cold beverages, encouraging all of us to partake Sweet memories I can remember of a grandfather who believed That his granddaughter held the potential to pursue any of her dreams I know your life wasn’t perfect or even semi somewhat sane I know you also lived a life-time of your own torment abuse and pain The past is not what defines us as to who we are today It’s merely a small segment; left to us how we choose to convey Forgiveness I have learned even though it took me years Holding back suppressed memories; holding back the tears Strength I have gained as the years have come and gone Ending this futile battle; standing ever so proudly not withdrawn So I’m sorry grandpa for expressing just one memory of the past Your granddaughter loves you dearly; the pain is finally over at last © Stacy Lynn Stiles
