''Unwanted''
There was just one time I felt unwanted, It was after my big sister was killed; I can still hear my mother screaming, Poor father with his weeping that chilled. Chilled any heart with its raw emotion, Father could be found in a bar drinking; Mother was depressed and took to her bed, I was confused and just stopped speaking. Speaking softly one day grandma took me, I liked the farm with grandma and grandpa; But I felt unwanted by my own parents, I was broken and only wanted to withdraw. Withdraw to the attic where I found peace, It was grandma who encouraged me to write; Write your sorrow dear heart she whispered, I would dream of mother and father at night. Night was full of my little girl tears falling, Then one day mother came to the farm to visit; She told me that father had stopped drinking, I went to my room and hid in the closet. Closet was so warm, dark, quiet and safe, Grandpa said that I was going to a new house; Father came to get me with wide open arms, All I said, daddy can I bring my pet mouse. ________________________ November 5, 2015 Quatrain For the contest, How does it feel to be unwanted Sponsor, Alfred Vassallo SECOND PLACE
