Carousel
AT THE REQUEST OF BEV SMITH... Carousel It was the music that caught my ear, So I followed and saw the lights. Totally mesmerized, I drew near And beheld a captivating sight. Beautiful creatures swiftly moved. Quite festively they were prancing. White steeds with painted hooves, Whirled around, happily dancing. They slowed in a change of pace, Arched necks all turned my way. With such power and total grace, One winked at me, a dappled gray. He beckoned me and so I went. Music flowed long into the night. Caught up in rhythm til I was spent, Not caring if it was wrong or right. Upon his back, we circled 'round. His thick mane flying in the wind. My hair escaped, came unbound, Then the lights softly dimmed. Subtle seduction, no need for words. He set my whole world into a spin. My beating heart was all I heard. It was in that moment I gave in. What a mystical night of fantasy. We soared like birds on the wing. Never in my life had I felt so free. Together we grabbed the brass ring. A thief in the night, he stole my heart. But harsh winds had started to gust. We were swept away, torn apart. Our brass ring had turned to rust. I was blinded by such a cruel storm. The carousel was knocked off course. I prayed that he'd not met with harm, My steed ~ my dappled gray horse. There was no music to be heard. I found him broken, on his side. I offered comfort with my words, "Get up. We can finish our ride." My breath wasted in tearful plea. Our journey had reached an end. Black glassy eyes stared up at me. I'll never ride on a carousel again
