Nighttime Monster
Nighttime Monster The monster within me raises its head— its power consumes me nighttime in bed. It stirs up my mind with poison of dread and robs me of peace, conflicts me instead. The monster within me sums up my day— to show outcomes in a negative way. The pluses forgotten, soon shoved away, replaced by the angst that enters the fray. In day, I respect my glass as half-full, but nighttime reverses and tries to pull the good things away and what's meaningful, to show glass half-empty—so pitiful. The monster within me makes me aware of things not accomplished, heightens despair, and robs me of sleep while I coldly stare with eyes open wide; no rest to repair. Sometime in the night, my monster lets go, as soothing slumber begins its sweet flow, to wake in the morning able to know no monster now, just the new day's bright glow. My negative monster wakes when I'm tired— no strength to fight back like when I am wired. Please—hope for my new day—keep me inspired! Deflect counter thoughts my monster has fired! Sandra M.
