The End of Summer Days
The days arrive and leave without fanfare. They sweep in late in the evening with sunlight dancing on the glass door glimmering reflections on the wall. As the day passes it ticks away slowly with the sun rising high then directly overhead. The leaves and branches of the trees cast shadows that close in blocking out the light and whispering the day is half done. A soft, light, gentle caressing breeze touches the leaves lightly making the tree tremble in the shade and all goes still and quiet. Not a sound breaks the air all seems to be at rest breathing in the last days of summer that hung on then seemed to leave too soon. The reminder of the day stretches out to twilight, dusk a sunset painted in pink and blue across the distant horizon. The end of summer hangs in the air and begins to leave silent and untethered quietly as it came.
