Forks - Raw Contest Entry
I've stepped out of this moment before, When the little things start to become so overwhelmingly big, And the smiles on our faces shift down to cordial grins. I've driven this path long before, Stumbled over pebbles and boulders, Bits of emotions that fell away, Some which we had to give up, Call it compromise. I've swallowed all of this pride before, Like choking back tears and blood, Eyes dry with dust from long nights spent wondering, Debating alternatives, Tuning these now much larger little things out, For the sake of loyalty and love. I've tasted this bitterness much before, And spit out the words of distaste, Leaving hearts and hopes behind in my wake, Those content minor moments replaced with silence, Replaced with somber distractions. I've never known this love before, To actually fix things that shatter, Amends and trying, Worlds apart from ages and naivety long ago, Able to hold onto what's simple and obvious, And if it gets too cold, I'll warm your hands anyway. Written 7/27/15 for the RAW contest.
