The Flowers
I spied a hidden garden Among the hills of gold A glorious garden Alive with brilliant flowers. Their colors beckoned to me As if to say, "Come, see my splendor And drink of my beauty." As I looked at the garden I saw two bright, special flowers Their petals touched each other And their leaves were intertwined Their colors blended and Their roots ran deep. I left the garden happy of heart And filled with joy. I wanted to pass that way Again soon. As spring turned into summer I remembered the garden And hastily ran through the hills To spy it again once more. As I approached the garden A strange silence settled in I saw that there were some Flowers in bloom Though less than before. At long last I found my special flowers But then my heart began to break For what I saw wounded my soul. My special flowers had faded And where once petals and leaves Has so lovingly embraced A wild weed had taken It's place. So carefully I pulled the weed And tended to the flowers. And afterwards My soul found peace And my heart sang for joy. Written on 1/16/2014
