I Would Leave
I would leave When young--up at night alone My mind on an aimless prowl Sporadic angst of death arose I would think how life would be If none had ever been or was I thought and thought myself adrift Into existential realms that sailed Defying my normal two-block world A pall above me, stalks as I pushed Alien energy--amplifying the void Knocking and knocking to overwhelm Till whistling of the westward train Swung me back within my skin A comfort like a nightly bell Knowing it was churning forth Churning at me, towards my world Closer than the downy touch In the open window--summer sky Roaring freights consoled my fright Fright when reaped of all the light The train was howling just for me The train reminded me to be What’s left we’ve yet to spend What’s left of dust and us, we’ll see Until we do descend
