Let Her Go
Let Her Go. Tenderly he runs his hand. Across her wrinkled brow. Whispers it will be ok. He knows it won't somehow. Fifty years they've been together. He knows he doesn't know. If he can face life without her. He don't want to let her go. Sitting by her bedside. He'd give her his last breath. He always thought he'd be first. When it came to death. Now sitting here just watching. As nature take it's place. He thinks that it ain't right. As tears roll down his face. Reaching out once again. He takes her by the hand. Thinks about the things in life. He may never understand. Kissing her upon her cheek. He say's I want you to know. If it were all up to me. I'd never let you go. But life is one big mystery. We've never been apart. Thinking about it sitting here. All but breaks my heart. Somewhere while he talked to her. He didn't even know. She headed on to heaven. And he just let her go. Edwin C Hofert
