A Journey On a Time Line Back To the Past
I travel down the musty, old country road, Examining all the familiar sights, A cloud of dust sprays from under the car, I flow on this time line up and down… …I’m becoming a kid again… I used to ride my bikes over these hills, Always going to the general store, Clutched in my hand were quarters, They would buy me my afternoon treats. I drive over the dirty, old cement bridge, Seeing the running brook where I used to fish, The whispering brook I would come and listen to, Hearing secrets brought from afar… …I now see the farm… I pull over to the side of the road and stop the car, An exciting feeling flows through me, The dam gates are unlocked, The waterfalls form pools on my lap. I stare at the farm gazed in awesome wonder, Remember the last time I saw it, It has almost been 25 years, I was a child then, I am a middle-aged man now… …Someone else lives there today… The trees have grown, the red barn is gone, But I see the big, red barn, I see the baby trees, All the memories walk up the driveway, Each one takes its place where it used to be… …I will never forget the farm… I turn the car around, drive back down the road, Saying good-bye to the memories, I travel up the time line, The dam is closed.
