The Month of May
The Month of May The month of May, her name alone lifts up our hearts, We honor her in special ways within our year; She grandly comes between late Spring and Summertime, Betwixt new buds of April and full bloom of June. The days of May lead to the middle of our year, The proof that we endured long Winter’s icy chill, And rain and wind of early Spring with fickle days Of warmth and cold while she, from dormant seed, gave birth. As April’s leaves of green take on a deeper hue, Her gifts like daffodils and dogwood lead the way For lovely tulips, laurel, peonies of May, While April showers halt for warmer sunny days. Town festivals that celebrate May’s entrance seem To honor her in many ways and cultures too. And 'round the world, May Day brings beauty to those towns With fragrant blossoms, flowers picked along the way. Our month of May—her name alone lifts up our hearts, We honor her in special ways within our year; She is the child of Spring grown into youthful days Before the full maturity of Summertime. © Sandra M.
