Winter Splendor
The splendor of the winter moon Shown bright outside my door The leafless trees and bushes cast Eerie shadows on the floor I rose and looked out from my door At the lovely new fallen snow And noticed all the Christmas lights From the village far below It seemed that no one was around To view this festive sight When all at once I heard the bells Of a horse drawn sleigh this night The tinkle of the silver bells Thus far beyond my sight Gave rise to poems read to me On Christmas eve's, each night I sat down in my easy chair Beside me was my dog He didn't even raise his head When I threw on a log The hiss of newly burning wood It's scent so fresh and new Sent aromatic spiraling smoke Up thru the chimney's flu The white smoke from the burning wood Was floating to and fro It blew into a lovely wreath That encircled the scene below I crossed back to my easy chair The image I did keep I then leaned back and closed my eyes And gently went to sleep
