For Whom Did You
Who arrested and tied you up, and dragged you on the ground? It was I, it was I Who denied you, denounced you, and lashed to cut your flesh away? It was I, it was I Who put a crown of thorns on your head, kicked and smacked you, and forced you to crawl on the steep hill with a cross on your back? It was I, it was I Who shoved you from behind, tore your heart up, and drove the rusty spikes into your hands? It was I, it was I Who mocked you, spit at you, and caused burning tears to well up in your eyes? It was I, it was I Why, when you cried, and called the Father vainly, and died with blood coughing up on the cross? It was for the sin I committed, it was for the sin I committed. And in this very moment, you stretch your arms from the cross and hold my trembling hands A rooster crows in the dark, the wall by the holy temple collapses, the raging water is calmed.
