Magic of Autumn
A bank of clouds so white and still The plaintiff call of a whippoorwill The lolling clouds drift to and fro Oblivious to the scene below A shadow suddenly appears Across a glistening pond As if some unknown magician waved His magic autumn wand A blaze of glory that I see From painted leaves once green Now shows unrivaled autumn hues Through magic, sight unseen I looked into the early light As a maze of clouds went by The movement of those billowing clouds Caused a whirlpool in the sky The panoramic hill tops Of multi-colored leaves Caused the turning leaves of autumn To float upon the breeze And then a leaf of scarlet red Pulled gently from its source It wafted to and fro in flight And often changed its course The bank of clouds then broke apart Amazed, I wondered why? A quickly moving gurgling stream Caught that leaf out of the sky It settled gently on the waves Turning neither left or right I said goodbye to that autumn leaf As it bobbed quickly out of sight I know I'll see that leaf no more Till autumn comes and then The scarlet reds and candy yellows Will paint the leaves again!
