Victim Or Survivor
Scars on your arms and legs Like permanent tattoos They never fade away Long live the memories You wish would disappear Sink away into the past Turn into shadows Follows you around In the corner of your mind Pushing you deeper into depression It turns you into a brand Labels you a Victim Proves that you’re weak Forces you into submission The impairment your body wears Manipulates your actions Tears you down Until you’re only nerves Which are exposed And every blow your body takes Knocks you down harder And the pain lasts longer Causing agony that lasts forever Scars tell you stories They tell you you’re…strong A scar proves that You made it through till the end The memories might always stay But every scar is a battle you won Because you’re breathing Because they didn’t break you Because they TRIED to break you Are you a victim or a survivor? Did you embrace the label? Or did you fight against it? Paige Posadziejewski Nov. 9 2015
