My Father
He use to stand so strong and tall With hands the size of a basketball He always wore a cowboy hat And beautiful boots to go with that He fought for his country for some time And probably didn’t make much more than a dime His life was spent working hard as a farmer And owned a gas station that was hardly a charmer He loved to hunt and fish a bunch And loved his family oh so much He taught me how to shoot a gun And took me to shoots that were fun He stood behind us one and all There to catch us when we fall He use to stand so strong and tall Never did I think he would age at all He loved us more than anything And always made his love for us sing A handsome man he has always been Inside, outside and deep within More proud of him I could never be A man with honor for all of thee He use to stand so strong and tall Now I wonder will he fall These golden years he says aren’t fun I think he would rather be shooting his gun And yet he is here each and everyday For each of his children, what more can I say. More proud of him we could never be Our love for our father you will always see.
