Sleeping Sailor
The Sleeping Sailor The sleeping sailor stirred suddenly awake To man the ship The wind! With a sudden roar it came “Another battle with a gale”, he thought “I’ll win again”, he said But no; This was not your ordinary wind or gale Beyond the horizon black clouds stirred And began to roll and boil It knew where it was going And all that it could do The darkness grew Piled, piles upon piles billowing high Black and gaining all the while Taking more of what it wanted Grinding, pounding, smashing With wind like fists of steel And all appearance of a war A flashing roaring menace To everything before The power of an evil one standing up with pride “I’ll do what none before me could”, it said And flashed an amber lightning bolt To boil the foaming sea So suddenly the storm came up, The sailor caught off guard Both man and ship were pitched From the top of towering waves And disappeared in a dark, cold suffocating sea “First one, then more” The storm then roared As it raged on toward the land, Where millions lived quite unprepared For what was near at hand
