One Day When I Am Old
One day when I am old; I will throw my cares away. Ignore a world so cold; One bright and wonderful day. I will wash my spirit clean; And fill my cup with love. Forget all I have heard and seen; When I am old and gruff. I will let the world tend; to the problems it has caused. I will sit and mend; And follow only Spirit's laws. Until that day, I will strive; To work with feverish intent. For perhaps that day should not arrive; Until my energies are spent. In that case, I will do my best; Until I feel too old to care. Then I can be like all the rest; Too busy for time to spare. May that day never come; When old age takes my will. And makes me only numb; No longer, for others feel. For there is death in apathy; There is surrender in complacent. I want to fill my heart with humanity; Or my life's story would be of lament. May a youthful hope fill my quest; So that I remain kind yet bold. Forever in life have a driven zest; For one day when I am old. By: Darlene Doll Smith
