Beauty
When stars are falling, the moon's exploding into the night time sky I turn to look for that familiar face, but you're not by my side I bite my lip, try not to cry, and turn my gaze back towards the sky It's beauty once warmed me but now I'm cold Like the touch of a corpse, growing old My temper is shorter, my emotions are dragging, being pushed along through mud I walk, I trip and fall to the ground, distracted I fall with a thud I get up and wipe myself off, I take a deep breath and look around A bird in the night sings a beautiful note, just loud enough to hear I follow its song along through the woods, till I'm closer near The forest is lonely, not safe anymore I run and I run, but I crave more The beauty is fading into a deadly nightmare I'm trying to search for you but you're just not there A pile, a heap, of torn butterfly wings, where I settle down to lie But no further I will continue this poem, for I don't wish to make you cry
