Hush of a Christmas Past
As a child growing up in the city, it was always hard to see How Santa could somehow manage to get in to our place; Mama told us that Santa was magic and we needed to agree That he could wiggle through any space, and always with such glee, But, if we didn’t believe, Santa would not come and presents he would not leave. That’s why, when I had my own children, I told them the same story; And when we moved to our house, Santa would come down our chimney, as quiet as a mouse; Christmas time was always a thrilling affair; Stockings always hung by the chimney with flair, Cookies and milk for Santa left with extreme care. Christmas morning the kids would awake, eager to see what Santa had left in his wake; faces all aglow and filled with excitement and bliss; Secure in the knowledge that they had been on the good children’s list Santa left presents strewn from chimney to tree, stockings filled to the brink; They opened their presents with not even a blink. Squeals of delight from then until noon, With grins on their faces as bright as the moon. Their joy and excitement was all I require, I quietly watched them as I sat by the fire. My heart filled with love for these Beautiful angels that were my gift from the heavens above.
