Invisible Clock
Tick, tock, as the minutes roll by Shadows dance on the walls As time goes by I stand still as the world moves on The planetary motions of life still go on As I remain planted in this one spot I begin to take root like a plant in a plot But still it doesn’t stop, the earth continues to move I’m running a race but I can’t even move The race is not to the swift I once was told But finish the race I must, that truth I hold Seasons recycle and moons change faces Once green over here is now green in other places The birds begin their trek over uncharted lands Kids in the street dance to songs from marching bands With age comes wisdom one is taught to believe You learn from mistakes of before as you continue to be You continue to grow and blossom into something new All in search of that inevitable truth Will time pass me by while stuck in this rut Will He take account for the time I was stuck Things to accomplish but no time in the day Excuse we all use but what can you say Flesh becomes tired, weak, and weary Things left undone ‘til morrow grow dreary Before seeing a new day the dread is upon us But let us seize the reigns so it does not win amongst us This invisible clock, this standard of time Allows us not to put in line So we hustle and bustle like ants on a farm Drones we are caught in life’s yarn Or maybe we’re puppets just playing a show With strings attached so on with the show Until that final curtain call Where time has come running down the hall To pronounce the end tick, tock, The race is over against the invisible clock.
