Had You Said Yes
When I went down on my knee And asked you my wife to be, You said you wanted to think about it Maybe just for a day you'll sleep on it. 20 torturous years have passed since Yet to my hopeful heart I couldn't convince That spurning me you went on to marry A man of wealth, comfort and less worry. You went ahead since and married twice, Though passing years have made me wise My foolish heart as always still pines for you-- But I wonder, did you ever feel guilty or rue? Whatever happened was for the best, Maybe fate had a game-plan or a test, Never in your share is given more or less What would my life be had you said 'Yes'? Maybe a divorcé or stone-cold dead For you to go ahead and again wed, Destined to marry thrice and not less You spared my life by not saying YES!
