A Wife and Her Husband On the Bed
Oh, beloved, why do you wake me so? Is it time for the nightingale to go? If not, stay and sing like you always do And I will dream sleepless dreams too. First the sun, then the moon tried to wake your sleep and steal a single boon from your gasp to keep but i said: be gone her lips are mine and I will alone trace its poised line. Oh, beloved, the sun and the moon left now, The moon beaming with an evening glow after the sun learned how to kiss and to blow the clouds that covered her silver brow. Lock your eyes and be quiet like a windless day in a garden that yet will bud on bridal may, with a veiled fountain of water fresh and clear to quench my thirst again, sleep quietly without fear. Oh, beloved, do not wander so faraway, My bosom is where your head must lay I will be a ballroom, let your fingers sway And my sighing will be like a cheerful pray. I will do as you ask No need to thank me It is hardly a hard task loving beauty as I see, You’re the same as I am: A moth awed by light A man and a woman caught in a flight.
