I feel sure mine's a true case of ‘Poet's Mouth' My insights are really infectious, My verse filled with poetic debris, If I wrote free verse they could weaponize me. I feel sure mine's a true case of ‘Poet's Mouth' For high honor I'm certainly fit….. How perfect if the first could be me…. Winner of the Golden Globes (of poetry!) Poet's Notes: This was actually quite a fun write. The goal was to have the egotistical poet (who is really totally devoid of any humility at all) to build himself up with phrases that actually have double meanings and increasingly show how vain (and dumb)he is, getting worse and worse as you get further into the poem. The 4th stanza is supposed to be a major clue that the whole poem is a satire on the poet's ego! ? The title, Poet's Mouth is also a play on a common phrase, 'Potty Mouth' describing a person who has a foul mouth and is always swearing to bring attention to himself. It is also a barely veiled reference to an actual disease, 'Hoof and Mouth Disease' in cattle (a real disease) , and 'Foot in Mouth Disease' (a merely humorous affliction but still possibly contagious) in humans. So contrary to what some of you might have been thinking (at first) this is not a poem about me (unless I am really, really stupid) ! : -)
