Letting It Be
Father taught us to work hard and be counted He was strict with us and with himself as well We may have been delinquent yet patience he mounted We were bit scared but it made discipline in us dwell As we grew up, he chiseled our rough angles well. Old, he still works hard and goes about his daily chores One by one we all settled well and wanted to take our turn He wishes to be independent, our request to help he ignores Alas, it was not to be, as he did not accept the favor return We had to respect his solitude and intent to do his own yearn. Quintain (English) 2 stanzas Contest: Hard Choices by Dr. Ram Mehta Date write: 17.6.2014 Note: In Indian cultural context, it is generally hard for a settled and grown up son not to be able to do his bit for a father when the situation arises, even in modern times.
