You clung to me and I to you, a compromise, settling for less than either's due, too late we woke. Thirty years went by, I grew and you disguised the wounds which caused you pain, the crippling stroke. You never told me in so many words, you despised yourself. You despised me, for my pushing broke the scab that sealed the shame of long, long, ago. As children, we had been taken to a hell. I had healed, would you ever, heaven only knows.
