New Name Card
Brief beyond brief our passage here; Our share of grief, time has marked clear. It seems just then when youth did roar; To understand what time was for. Hindsight seems sure of that and this; So insecure the path of bliss. We, There and Then ventured beyond The Why and When to dare upon. Foresight less clear or even blur; Feel anxious fear cast petty slurs. The Now and Here needs clever tact; Things don't look clear for each new act. So much to say or think and do; To fill each day with gainful woo. So many seasons have we lived thus; Times and reasons have turned to dust. Now here we meet as if by chance; In busy street where feet now prance. Lost in the mists of old recalls; New name card gist to share install. We chat a bit of times that try; Polite sure bits and then goodbye. Success builds walls, sets strange from strange; Cynics recall wide gap and change. Our hairline tint has turned to grey; Visage and mint, sculptured dismay. We talk about the fond old times; Jest chuckles out the changing chimes. Just as quickly we banish scene; Surely to be a dusty din! A new name card is all that's left; A life pitch hard in tray or shelf. Someday if we chance upon name; Think "If only..." things were the same. Round and round we circle round In strange, new grounds still lost yet found! Such feeble ways to look back then; Unsteady rays of way back when. Leon Enriquez 02 Apr 2014 Singapore
