War Songs
You're not alive anymore I've lost a life, time, you sing & lie & roar & hide & cry disappear in my brain & I am waiting tortured for my soul you emptied & hushed & filled with the world. I can't sleep like this alone with dreamless eyes and silent lips that speak like kisses that lie; can it end in a day can it end ever with bargains & deals & contracts that go on impermanent as existence & solid as a rock. Give me an axe Give me hammers & nails & wheels that roll over me a thousand times so that I stand straight & broken with no direction dissected with ladders & webs of woven hair & still I am bloodless. Did you find my vain images worthy of your critique Thief------------aren't we all. Will I ever know you like a lump of flesh so normal & familiar I can trace it all with my mental finger A shadowy figure great & small I reach into your quiet AWOL emptiness My Soldier, My Lover You are still uncanny and I, I'm still writing war songs.
