Down On Her Luck
She was down on her luck, down to her last dollar And no one around to lend a helping hand She trusted that sucker but now he was gone for good As sad songs where played by some old blues band They rode into New Orleans early last Friday But now he was nowhere in sight Maybe another woman’s arms filled him with her charms And with her he would spend another peaceful night She herself found a few lovers that stayed the night But real meals for her hunger were rare They only wanted what she had just for the moment As for the rest they really didn’t care A year or was it two, she couldn’t recall Just those long one night stands in between One lonely girl caught up in her world And still wearing tight Conway jeans She’s hungry and tired, cold and alone In a town that shows no mercy at all They’ll laugh and leave as you die in the street As only the cold dark shadows give a call Too many nights alone crying real tears But no longer will she hunger in pain She’s now the city’s problem lying cold and dead In the street that never knew her name
