From Where I Came
From where I came By Lawrence Lally Nunez On the shore of the Caribbean I stand Steadying my gaze with my hand, Searching far beyond the sea With My cup of fever grass tea To sooth my mind, body and soul This is not my only goal For I want to see from where I came And how my father played the game Yurumei they say was my home Where life was sweet as the honeycomb hudut, tapou and ereba I ate Peeled, mash, beat and grate. Real fresh I had my fish To make these delicious dish As I look from where I came I know my mama played the game In these times the world is new With I-pads and cell phones I grew Today I am lawyer, policeman and actor All I needed then was a bush doctor Whether I was happy jolly or blue To keep me together he had the glue I must know from where I came In order for me to play the game Friends you need to know the creed Don’t be guided by your greed Don’t sell your people for monetary gain For you will suffer consequence and pain The legacy we get is to hold and preserve For this our children they do deserve Please know from where you came You need to learn to play the game
