New York Stops Playing Country
She comes out the drive way And she turns the radio on It’s the same old radio station But now the country music’s gone She though she made a mistakes She stops on the side of the street They were playing new music Not the familiar country beat She comes to New York City After she graduate Opportunity comes knocking A job offer that just couldn’t wait She always misses the country It’s where her heart and soul belongs But now she’s going back to Tennessee New York stops playing country songs She said the New York City lights Are starting to hurt her eyes She needs to see the mountains Under the big blue sky’s She got lose between her ambition’s And the wealth of Wall Street She climbs the ladder of fortunes But she was not complete And the old country songs And the only thing that keep her sane But New York stops playing country She going back to Tennessee again She’s feels like a shell in the ocean New York City makes her feel so small This small town girl from Nashville Is going back to the place that started it all To feel the Tennessee rain on her head And the green grass under her feet The cool waters of the Tennessee Lakes And the friendly people down Memphis Street She always felt like a stranger in New York And now she knows that for sure And its times to leave the city New York don’t play country no more Please don’t get me wrong New York City you are so is lovely So good bye miss statue of liberty Hope your green face don’t cry for me She looks over the Manhattan Going home in the plane Maybe one day she will come back When New York start playing country again She steps out of the log cabin And feel the dew on the ground And on the radio inside Playing that familiar old country sound
