My Love For You In Ghazal, My Love
You fill me with light, my love You make my life bright, my love When I feel that I will fall Your strength makes it right, my love When to the world I am blind You give me my sight, my love When to darkest depths I fall Joy’s in what you write, my love When my heart with sorrow bleeds Your kiss starts my flight, my love My world abides in your heart So hold Roya tight, my love Eileen Manassian Ghali PS…I’ve read a great deal about Ghazal before doing this poem. It would interest you to know that Ghazal originated in PERSIA…That is where I was born. There does have to be a certain number of syllables in each couplet. I have chosen 7. Also, there is the idea that in the ending couplet, the author brings in his/her name or a pen name. Mine is Roya, which in Persian means VISION (as in a vision or dream). Also, the refrain in each couplet must be preceded by a rhyming word; you see that I have kept to that religiously. Though the couplets can stand as separate poems, nowadays writing to a theme is not frowned upon. Romance is the name of my game, so that explains my theme. I hope you enjoy this first attempt at Ghazal by Roya! HUGS!
