Fields of Pink
i often wondered why did October in all of her beauty become national breast cancer month the trees bear resemblance to the sun the yellow, orange, scarlet folds softly spiraling in the cool winds was it the red, as it tumbled down a remembrance of blood shed as lives were lost? was it the bitter cold bite that signified ending and the bare trees that followed as fall exited? as i looked around me daybreak blushed across the sky the trees lined the streets flushed in reds and oranges the dormant green grass began yellowing around the edges amidst all of this were fields of pink a thousand little flags slow dancing in the wind as leaves twirled around them each flag depicting a life touched a battle fought a win or loss against this disease i then realized October's birthstone pink tourmaline is said to have many faces express every mood foster inner harmony and strength it all makes sense as i look at each flag i see faces of many in my community a battle they all fought unwillingly i see joy i see sorrow i see pain a mother a sister an aunt and i see memory all together in fields of pink and i now understand... Sandy Adams 11/02/2013 pinktober contest Inspired by the high school children I am proud to drive to school... they raised over 1000 dollars for breast cancer by selling these flags, the school grounds are fields of pink and most the flags dedicated to those lost...I dedicate this poem to them and our community! Thanking them for the inspiration!
