Mother
Mother was sick I had to go It would be a long drive on that road There were miles between us As I fought back the tears Wondering if I would make it in time Maybe I could nurse her back to health? So we could spend some quality time That was my plan I wasn't ready to let her go I arrived at her home, there she was Lying in her bed, starring out the window She turned to me and smiled I hugged her thin frail body Held back the tears and gave her a smile I turned to her nurse and whispered “How is she doing?” The nurse looked at me and said,” The cancer has spread to her bones, it won’t be long” It was too late, I felt like I let her down I ran outside and fell to my knees, I began to cry When I felt a warm hand run down my spine I heard a soft voice whisper, “It won’t be forever” I jumped back on my feet and looked to the sky Two sets of footprints across a cloud
