Hero
“Hero” By Kevin Robey July 24, 2013 My story went viral on a day like today Paraded my bravery at the edge of night The Talley counted all the demons I slayed But my scarred mind didn't survive the fight I didn't want their praise I didn't want their accolades They should’ve let me burn Instead I carried their torch with nothing left to say From the outside it didn't seem so bad I was a YouTube hero with smile that was pure Encouraging remarks offered vanilla solutions What could it mean when there never was a cure? Never was a hope for this terminal disease Don’t recall when, but it ended up killing me The walking dead was the name of my race Decided by our collective fall from grace You say others had it worse Don’t give up, this moment is just a speck But my mind is on fire right now You can’t feel the pain shooting down my neck Curled in the shower, head between my knees I cried bloody tears until I drained my heart within My personal hell on earth, under that Dead Sea The sun died that day, never to rise again I put up my walls and sealed my empty heart tight As I braced my mind for the darkness of the eternal night
