Melancholy Eyes
By Kevin Robey July 12, 2013 Verse 1 I’m sick of these melancholy eyes That keep them away in the light It’s not to invite an idolized disguise In my mind where day turns to night I wish that I could scream out loud Tell them the truth behind these lies Because these storm-filled clouds Are ready to flood my blue skies Drowning in the shelter I made That I built upon the desert sand So foolish to maintain this charade It’s raining in this deserted land Chorus Now I’m sleeping in the weathered bed I made I could have let them in, I could have been saved I couldn’t risk my scarred heart, just let me fade Lying awake at night while the rain fills my grave Verse 2 Paralyzed by endless irrational fears Despite reassuring embraces of my friends I know this isn’t what they wanted to hear My darkness more than they comprehend So I shut them out, they leave me alone I dig myself deeper than six feet under Thought I was safe from the great unknown Instead I’m blinded by approaching thunder I don’t know what will become of me But right now it doesn’t look promising Hope can find light where my smile agrees The shine that only blind faith can bring Repeat Chorus Now I’m sleeping in the weathered bed I made I could have let them in, I could have been saved I couldn’t risk my scarred heart, just let me fade Lying awake at night while the rain fills my grave
