In My Sleep
The moon's hiding behind the last of evening's dew, It waits for a ride on the morn coming through; The starlights been gathered as it melts into blue, Just like these dreams and the visions of you. Near a dry riverbed I stumble from my sleep, Wond'ring if this soul will be worthy of keep. The heart is a bleeding from the cut gone too deep, It searches for comfort in the tears that I weep. And the days they are passing into the years left behind, The shadows hold mem'ries that we're hoping to find. The thief in the night walked away with our time, While sleep is the refuge that now eases my mind. With a wave of a hand the last meal's 'bout to start, This life's like a picture that imitates the art. The talk 'round the table is that we'll never part, But truth is well known and it lives in each heart. It may not be today, or the few days to come, When you're searching for light that's more pure than the sun; You will step from the past into all that's begun, And then in my dreams you'll be forever young. And those days are still passing into the years far behind, Shadows still hold mem'ries that I'm hoping to find. That thief in the night walked away with your time, And sleep's still a refuge that still eases my mind.
