Light At the End of Tunnel
Was a 28 year old professional girl, whose life should have been the best, instead I had a heart defect, brought about even more seriously by a Turkish Doctor, who when I was on holiday injected me with a drug I had already told him I was allergic too. Causing the heart to deteriorate to such an extent that a pace maker was fitted. Unfortunately, in doing this the wire of the pacemaker went through my tricuspid valve causing untold problems to add to the ones already in existence. Open heart surgery was advised, this is a frightening thought, even more so as i work in the medical profession. April 29 2012 dawned, the day that could end my life or give me a fresh start. I wasn’t afraid, in my mind I either woke up or I didn’t, not a damned thing I could do about it. Thankfully in my hospital a French surgeon specialised in the procedure I was to have. I smiled said bye to my family that had arrived at my bedside at 7 am to see me go down to theatre. Some 12 hours later much to the delight of a much worried team of medics I opened my eyes, this was the turning point of my life, I thought, well God you brought me through this trauma, now I have to live life as you would wish. A 12 month on, unfortunately I had to have another non –related operation, my heart stood the brunt of a 6 hour op. Once again I am recovering, now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am not a religious person, but I do believe in God. I thank him for giving me back my life it now has a capital L.
