We Didn'T Listen
The cry from a young girl, it turned into a scream Putting my hand over my ears, I prayed it was a dream A voice so deep and threatening, gave a blood curdling laugh Don’t cover your eyes up girl you are the next one in the bath. Pulling down my fingers, I saw he held her in the bath The terror in her eyes yet all he could do was laugh He held her under the water, her arms and legs kicked in fear He let her breathe for a second, saying ‘it’s your turn soon my dear.’ I could not move my legs; they were tied with a black tie My naked body battered, I couldn’t even cry The little girl no more than five, her screams no longer heard He looks disappointed, my eyesight was now blurred He hoisted me in his arms; I tried to scream so loud He plunged me in the water; her hair covered her like a shroud There was no room for two, her body floated there One last bubble from her nose, the last escape of air. My legs were tied, my arms were free, a scream through the air did rend Was I to die and spend my end, in a bath with my dead friend? The face of my mother hovered over me the face of my father there too Their arms were holding out, but there was nothing they could do. My head held down, my fingers pulled at the hair of my now dead friend The pressure of his hand on me it was then, I knew, now was the end Why oh why didn’t we listen we were told never to speak to strangers The answer came too late; we never ever saw the dangers.
