Forgive Me
Forgive me if i don’t seem concerned, When you say your tummy aches, And your sight is bad. I hear your pain, but i can’t feel it; I barely have the strength To shoulder mine, and none Are there to trudge with me. Forgive me if i seem too far When you try the best you can To make me smile and be my friend. I’ve been alone far too long, And know not how to hug a friend. Forgive me if i’mall too sad When you bring your joy and good fortune. I like your smile, but just can’t copy it; I’ve solong been unlucky, I know nothow to mirror joy. Forgive me if i don’t accept Your kindly deeds. I appreciate them, but want them not; My mind is stained with things I’ve seenfavours breed. Forgive me if i stay at home While the rest go out and about, Worrying about leadership And modern dynasties; I’ve seen enough in life to make Me know that ballot boxes Can’t stop Tsunamis. Forgive me when i switch the channel When the “ men of god” appear. I love their clothes, but not their deeds. Their words are not the kind That soothe my ailing soul. Theirs’ are not the sayings that provide hope. Their deeds are all they anchor on. But of what good is it, pray say, If i be healed today, to be Crushed by a bus tomorrow? Of what use be it, if i be cured of an ache, To die of hunger tomorrow? Sayings of life are not what they dish out. Their business is to “touch and heal”. Forgive me if i sound strange, unconventional, Some would say so blunt, But my entire being’s been marked By experiences that make me so.
