Lamenting My Lost World
We come as strangers to this virgin land After succumbing to the impossible Astonished by the solitude of shamed regret for what we've done Still stunned with grief for what is gone.... We stand in voiceless, numb despair To gaze upon what we have maimed A blue veined world we've left behind Appearing weightless in the sky So far from us beyond the maze Of smoky dust, of lingering flames, engulfed, and choked, by those who paid the dearest price, who lie in graves And from carved names of marbled sorrow We weep for all those lost tomorrows From here, our eyes might be deceived To peer beyond the starry seas to earth,... a home we claimed to love so far above,... or did we lie? How strange it is, now seen from here remains yet beautiful to the eye As we stand wide eyed, upon new shores And look from here, to the earth so far How fragile, is our earth still spinning Where winds of war divided races And homes we loved wear ravaged faces And now as we begin, again How do we avoid the sin? How precarious this world untouched can be Where seas are blue and birds fly free Have we learned, from where we've been? We must repent..........recall it all One last look upon the old I feel a shiver of the cold Spinning, dying, looking small I catch my breath........and close my eyes swallow tears of anguished cries I'll turn my head before it falls ________________________________________________________
