Brother
Oh, why hast thou forsaken me, O Christ? We, born of the same womb, Suckled at the same teat, Seen the same first light from the same vantage? I, too, feel betrayed. You strained for a higher purpose And neglected our fraternity I cannot forgive you for such a crime. The rage I feel is real, The envy is murderous, The disdain complete The separation irreconcilable. The father you mention is, assumedly, also mine Our seed is of the same origin This is no immaculate conception We had the same bloody birth. Our mother may have belied her betrothal With a tryst. And lain with a man more visceral than this god Of which you speak. Yet, still I will claim our brotherhood. Yet, still I will acknowledge our lineage Yet, still I will feel the same kinship But always you will be : kin but less than kind or kind.
