The Long Fall Back To Earth
THE LONG FALL BACK TO EARTH” The furious flapping of broken wings The wasted futility of shattered dreams The great expectations of soaring high The diminishing dreams as they fall from the sky Soaring on the wings of selfish pride We fly too high, and like Icarus, collide From the world we try so hard to leave behind To purge ourselves from all the temperaments of humankind Take me up to horizons I transcend Take me down to the earth’s dark edge Wash the suffering from off my skin Teach me how to be whole again Fly me up on silver wings Above the places where sirens ring Warm me up in a mercurial glow And drop me down to my dreams below To turn away and not become More abundant than the tears-- so numb A world embracing every predestined heartache Should I be the one to sacrifice for the sake of fate After all is said and done I stand alone Vestige remains of a life I should not own It takes all I am to continue to believe In the undeserved benevolence that covered me.
